Easter and Jesus' Resurrection
Matthew 27: 45-54
Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is to say, "My God, My God, why hast hour forsaken me?"
Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, "This man calleth for Elias." And straightway on of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink. The rest said, "Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him."
Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
And behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; and the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose, and came out of the graves after His resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly saying, "Truly this was the Son of God."
Matthew 28: 1-20
In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow.
And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
And the angel answered and said unto the women,
" Fear not ye; for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for He is risen, as He said, Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead; and, behold, He goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him; lo, I have told you."
And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring His disciples word.
And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them saying," All hail."
And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped Him.
Then said Jesus unto them, "Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me."
Now when they were going behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done. And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers, saying, say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole Him away while we slept. And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you. So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them. And when they saw Him, they worshipped Him; but some doubted.
And Jesus came and spake unto them saying," All power is given utno me in heaven and in earth. God ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world." Amen.
Mark 16:9-20
Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out the whom He had cast seven devils. And she went and told them that had been with Him, as they mourned and wept. And they, when they had heard that He was alive, and had been seen of her, believed not.
After that He appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked, and went into the country. And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
Afterward He appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meant, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen Him after He was risen.
And He said unto them, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
So then after the Lord ad spoken unto them, He was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the Word with signs following. Amen.
Luke 24 30-53
And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him; and He vanished out of their sight.
And they said one to another, "Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the scriptures?"
And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon." And they told what things were done in the way, and how He was known of them in breaking of bread.
And as they thus spake, Jesus himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, "Peace be unto you."
But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit.
And he said unto them, "Why are ye troubled? And why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold my hands and my feet, that it is I myself: handle me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have."
And when He has thus spoken, He shewed them His hands and His feet. And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said unto them, "Have ye here any meat?"
And they gave Him a piece of broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And He took it, and did eat before them.
And He said unto them," These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me. "
Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures, and said unto them," Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."
And He led them out as far as to Bethany and He lifted up His hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass while He blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.
And they worshipped HIm, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: and were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen.
John 20: 11-17 Mary Magdalene
But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre, and seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain. And they say unto her, "Woman, why weepest thou?"
She saith unto them, "Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid Him."
And when she had thus said she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Jesus saith unto her, "Woman why weepest thou? Whom seekest thou?"
She, supposing Him to be the gardener, saith unto Him, "Sir, If thou have borne Him hence, tell me where thou hast laid Him, and I will take Him away."
Jesus saith unto her," Mary."
She turned herself, and saith unto Him," Rabboni"; which is to say" Master."
Jesus saith unto her, "Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father and your Father; and to my God, and your God."
John 20 24-29 Thomas
But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. The other disciples therefore said unto him," We have seen the Lord."
But he said unto them," Except I shall see in His hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into His side, I will not believe."
And after eight days again His disciples were within, and Thomas with them, then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, "Peace be unto you."
Then saith He to Thomas, "Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side; and be not faithless , but believing. "
And Thomas answered and said unto Him, "My Lord and my God."
Jesus saith unto Him," Thomas because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed."
And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing ye might have life through His name.
John 21-25
And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which , if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.
